- The Office of Institutional Research can assist you in producing a professional, high-quality survey process that will produce solid answers to important questions.
- This process functions best as a "client-consultant" relationship, where the UT department, committee, or administrator is the client, and Strategy and Institutional Research is the consultant.
- As the client, you control the project. It is our job to recommend the practices and survey instruments that will best produce valid, useful answers to your questions.
What We'll Do
- Clarify the questions you want answered
- Design the research process to assure your questions are answered adequately
- Recommend who should be surveyed (sample size and composition)
- Recommend the most appropriate method of survey (web, mail, etc.)
- Design pre-survey materials
- Develop the survey instrument (questions, layout)
- Compile and clean electronic survey response files
- Analyze survey results
- Produce reports based on survey results
- e-mail to potential respondents
What You'll Need To Do
- Provide overall direction of the project, including final approval of the research design, instrument, and implementation
-
Deploy
- post it on the web
- pass it out in class
- print and mail, stuff envelopes
- make telephone survey calls
- Manual data entry of "free form" (written) responses
- Survey costs (printing, postage, etc)
- There is no charge for IR staff time, but staff time is limited by work
